Having coached a number of Elite and National Team Amateurs from 2000 -2010, I the had the chance to coach on the European Tour from 2010-2020. I was astonished that from the Tee, the Tour Players were inferior for the most part. Around the Green there was little difference. But there was an enormous gulf when comparing the ability from 50 to 200 yards – the Approach Play or what I then labelled as the SCORING ZONE. When looking at statistics, the proximity to hole was so different it was unbelievable. The distance control, the flight control and the strike control was totally in a different class – with no exceptions. Almost all worked relentlessly on their distances, most had a personalized system and nearly all had feedback systems. In this video I outline some of my learning experiences direct from the Tour to give players the ability to improve, progress and excel in this critical area.
